Shropshire Fungus Group

To contact the Shropshire Fungus Group please write to Roy Mantle (Shropshire's fungi recorder) at roy@homepcemail.co.uk or natural.environment@shropshire.gov.uk

Further information on the group can be found here.  A newsletter is also produced.  Please contact Roy if you would like to be added to the mailing list.

Roy would welcome records of fungi you may have seen in Shropshire.  Remember to provide a minimum of:

Who - The name of the person who saw it and if someone else identified it, include their name.

What - The name of the fungi you have seen

Where - The name, and ideally the grid reference of the place you saw it

When - The date you saw it

It is also useful to record what the fungi was growing on.  For example it might be growing on the fallen branch of a broadleaved tree, on a live Oak tree, or perhaps just from the soil.  Photos can sometimes be helpful to confirm identification and should be emailed to Roy.

Maps

Photo of Caterpillar Fungus (Cordyceps militaris) by Dan WrenchMaps of all fungi records collected by the county recorder to 2009 are presented here.  Fungi are not recorded as much as birds or plants so these maps tend to reflect where people have been recording not a true distribution of the species.  Please send any additional sightings to the County Recorder at roy@homepcemail.co.uk or by using the 'Make a species record' form.
