Amphibians & Reptiles of Shropshire

Click 'Map' after each species to see where signtings have been reported.  Very few people ever report where amphibians and reptiles have been seen so these maps do not represent a true picture of where these species are found.  Amphibian records are currently being checked for accuracy before being displayed.
Please pass records of sightings to Fran Lancaster (acting chair of Shropshire Amphibian and Reptile Group) at natural.environment@shropshire.gov.uk

Be sure to include your name and contact details, where you saw it (a grid reference starting SO or SJ is best), and the date you saw it (or just year).  A photo would also be useful.

Alternatively there are specific recording forms and further information available from:
www.narrs.org.uk

About the data

The records shown here are provided by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.  They include all records to date.  The records provided here should not be used in planning decisions. Data for such uses is available in greater detail from SWT.  The records here do not represent an accurate distribution for these species in Shropshire as a complete county survey has never been attempted.  Please pass details of any sightings to the Shropshire Wildlife Trust to help us keep our records up to date and also help identify where conservation effort is best focussed.

About the maps

Search and select a species by the english or scientific name then click 'Map'.

The blue square represents a tetrad (2x2km) and when you click the map a tetrad sized square will be highlighted. To the right of the map you will be told the grid reference of where you clicked, the tetrad name, plus the year the species was last seen there.

Click 'Satellite' on the map to use satellite or aerial photos as the backdrop.  Use the ' + ' and ' - ' symbols to zoom in and zoom out.  Click and hold the map to move around.

You can also zoom to a postcode or place using the search window.

To create a link to that specific place click 'link to this map' at the bottom of the map then copy the web page address from the address window at the top of the screen.
