This web page presents the current recorded status of ladybirds in Shropshire.Only those beetles typically thought of as Ladybirds are listed here. There are other beetles in the same family (Coccinellidae) but these are not always recognised as Ladybirds.
The Shropshire Invertebrates Group welcomes records of ladybirds. Please send your records to Ian Thompson at salopladybirds@f2s.com
Please make sure to include a grid reference of where you found it, the date you found it, your name and of course the type of ladybird.
To help find a grid reference just zoom in on the map below using the '+' sign and move to the place you found it using the arrow symbols or by clicking and dragging the map. Then click once on the map and read the grid reference produced to the right of the map starting 'SJ or SO.
To help identify the ladybird you could buy the Field Studies Guide on Ladybirds available from: here
Or try the UK Ladybird Survey web site: www.ladybird-survey.org
Alternatively, if you keep a specimen, the Shropshire Invertebrates Group will be pleased to identify it for you.
NEWS - The Harlequin Ladybird is now in Shropshire (first recorded 9th Sept 2007). If you see a an unusually large ladybird, it could well be a Harlequin Ladybird. Be sure to visit the Harlequin Ladybird survey web page for guidance on identification.
